This major book documents the contributions of about fifty political and economic practitioners as well as scientists from universities from Mediterranean countries who analyse the future of the Mediterranean as seen immediately after the end of the Cold War and the Gulf War. The book is co-published by the French regional bank: Credit Mutuel Méditerranéen and by Publisud (Paris).

The book is based on the discussions in five commissions that focused on: 1) general economic development and problems of the society (chaired by Roland Colin); 2) on industrial and technological development (chaired by Abdelkader Sid Ahmed); 3) financing of development (chaired by Fernand Rau); 4) communication (chaired by Christian Reynaud); and 5) on the Latin countries, the realities and regional synergies (chaired by Jean-Claude Juan).
